3 anglers from Clacton fishing the lake this week. A very hot and humid week, but a couple of colder nights noted. Thunderstorms again later in the week. Extremely slow feeding with some carp still spawning. Some have already spawned the last couple of weeks, notably Afghan who has lost weight down from 60lb 8oz caught 6th June to 53lb this week. Alarms going off but just nibbling, they need to go on the munch now to gain their lost weights, and we are hoping for some cooler weather. Only 8 Carp caught totaling 283 lb's, with an average weight of 36 lb. Lost a couple of big ones at the net....- 53lb - Paul Thurgood...- 46lb 3oz - Paul Thurgood, 42lb - Nigel Stimpson...- Also - 34lb 3oz, 30lb 4oz...- And - 28lb 14oz, 25lb 4oz, 23lb 6oz.

Our guys from Nottinghamshire, Oxon and Stoke on Trent made another return to the lake this week. It continued to be slow with most of the carp definitely spawning and agitated, so photographs difficult with a 46lb'er getting away as it was being picked up, and a 38lb 9oz common had to be photographed on the mat as it was so restless. It was a boiling hot week, with the lake temperature obviously reaching it's peak to allow the already preparing carp to spawn, and even a thunderstorm later on did not cool it down. 20 carp caught totaling 752 lb's, and with around 8 lost, could have been quite a few more. An average weight of 38 lb.....- 53lb 3oz - Ron Chillery...- 46lb 8oz - Ron Chillery, 46lb 7oz - Ron Chillery, 46lb - Steve Malone, 44lb 8oz - Steve Malone, 43lb 3oz - Shaun Richardson, 40lb 3oz - Shaun Richardson....- Also - 39lb 15oz, 39lb 8oz, 38lb 9oz Common, 36lb 8oz, 35lb 10oz, 35lb, 33lb 13oz, 31lb...- And - 29lb 13oz, 29lb 10oz, 29lb 8oz, 26lb 12oz, 26lb.

We had 4 guys from Nottinghamshire and 2 from Essex on the lake this week. Started sunny, then a few days of dismal rain, getting extremely hot by Friday. We think some of the carp have spawned and others are likely to next week if the hot weather continues. A lot of activity in the margins with lots of fish showing. All of the largest carp coming out at night or early morning. Hopefully, they are now on the munch. Again, some brilliant weights, they are really packing it on. Mainly big carp - 50's seem to be every week now, and not many of the newer, smaller carp which is unusual. Another new 60lb'er, from the Quarry swim, and there will be others. They came here for big carp, and that's what they got, all in all a good haul. 15 Carp netted totalling 654 lb's, and a couple lost, but an absolutely amazing average weight of 44lb....- 60lb 8oz - John Trushell.....- 54lb 13oz - Brian Page...- 51lb 7oz - Terry Bonham...- 50lb 12oz - Dave Morley...- 48lb 15oz - John Trushell, 48lb 12oz - Brian Page, 48lb 4oz - John Trushell, 44lb 14oz - Dave Morley, 44lb 14oz - John Trushell, 43lb 14oz - Lee Hallberg....- Also - 38lb 8oz, 37lb 6oz, 33lb...- And - 25lb 14oz, 24lb 6oz.

Our guys were from Norfolk this week including Colin's twin brother Tony, along with Nick Bridgeman who stayed another week. Again, very intermittent catches, with the dreadful weather not subsiding till later in the week. Some big Commons coming out over the last few weeks though, this week Nick with a 45lb, and the Lake Record Common caught by Tich at 50lb 2oz - well chuffed, this was on the Friday night when someone always seems to get a good one. 4 P B's this week. Fishing is extremely hard at the moment, it just happens that this is the time when all the elements seem to be against us - a week or so in the future will see a dramatic change, it always does. We just can-not predict when this is going to happen, the Carp will do what they want, when they want. It was good to see Colin and Tony celebrate their birthday together at the Friday night Barbecue - not happened for a very long time, so Cheers to them, and many more. 20 Carp caught totalling 777 lb's, with an average weight of 39lb....- 56lb 9oz - Will George...- 52lb 2oz Common - Tich Lakey...- 54lb - Tony Nash...- 45lb - Tich Lakey, 45lb Common - Nick Bridgeman, 43lb 12oz - Will George, 43lb 2oz - Tony Nash, 42lb 10oz - Richard Thompson...- Also - 38lb 4oz, 38lb 1oz, 37lb, 36lb 3oz, 36lb, 34lb, 33lb 10oz, 33lb, 31lb...- And - 29lb 8oz, 27lb, 21lb 3oz.

The slowest week since the beginning of the Season for our guys from Hampshire, Norfolk and Liverpool. They really struggled, but reported that there is still no sign of spawning except for a couple of hyper fish. The first couple of days were very hot, with only a few out at night. Pressure was very low, and thunderstorms later on gave some respite with the carp slowly making an appearance intermittantly. High winds and rain most of the week and turning really cold later on. So a mixture of changeable weather a contributing factor. Some great lumps came out again despite everything, but only 15 carp caught this week weighing 620 lb's, but with again, a fantastic average weight of 41lb.....- 53lb 12oz - Martin Smith....- 53lb - Nick Bridgemen....- 53lb - Martin Smith....- 44lb 8oz - Martin Smith, 44lb 6oz - Stuart Hobkirk, 44lb - Martin Smith, 43lb 5oz - Ged Hargreaves, 42lb - Nick Bridgeman, 41lb - Ged Hargreaves.....- Also - 37lb 8oz, 37lb, 35lb 3oz, 34lb....- And - 29lb 8oz, 28lb.

We had three groups of 2 of our very regular anglers visiting this week, one group from Liverpool, one group from London, and one group from Essex. Another slow, steady week, carrying on from the last. The otherwise fantastically productive Bay swim switched off completely, and the carp went for the Dam and Quarry mostly, and then the Med swims, showing just how much they move around from week to week. That was until the last day, after Richard Lee who unfortunately had blanked in the Bay all week, was just winding his rods in ready to leave for the airport, when he had the amazing achievement of catching Matey, who has put on even more weight than when he was caught three week's ago at 72lb 10oz, - now weighing in at 73lb 15oz, just off the 74lb mark. He was ecstatic, so pleased for him. Well done Richard. Lots of carp showing, but still no sign of any spawn. Weather set to stay warmer for a bit now, so spawning maybe imminent. Weather was miserable to start the week, brightening up mid-week, but strong winds at the end of the week. Not a huge amount of fish, but fantastic weights yet again. 20 Carp totaling 842 lb's, with a fantastic average of weight of 42lb....- 73lb 15oz - Richard Lee....- 55lb 11oz - Mark Lewis...- 51lb 4oz - Ben Pittock...- 50lb 1oz - Ben Pittock...- 46lb 3oz - Ben Pittock, 46lb - Steve McCarthy, 45lb 13oz - Steve McCarthy, 43lb 7oz - Peter Lee, 42lb 5oz Common - Ben Pittock, 42lb Common - Mark Lewis, 40lb - Ben Pittock, 40lb - Steve McCarthy...- Also - 38lb 10oz, 37lb, 36lb 13oz, 33lb 12oz, 33lb...- And - 29lb 13oz, 28lb 14oz, 27lb 12oz.

5 of our longstanding anglers, and one newbie - 3 from Surrey and 3 from Lancashire, graced our lake again this week. One loyal angler never missing a year since 2006, one since 2009, and three having their 4th consecutive year with us. All of them have had remarkable catches over the years, but still hoping for that extra big one. What a hard, slow week it was for them. None of the usual signs of spawning, other than they are not eating much, so probably our carp are getting in the mode. They always seem to be a bit later on our lake than most, probably the size of water. It picked up a bit though the last two days. Weather was changeable all week. Again, some fantastic sized lumps coming out. 18 Carp caught totaling 661lb's, and 4 lost, with an average weight of 37lb....- 64lb 1oz - Khi Gregory ......- 53lb - Pete Southworth..- 51lb 11oz - Neil Green..- 45lb 10oz - Khi Gregory, 43lb 6oz - Chris Walmsley, 41lb - Neil Green, 40lb - Neil Green...- Also - 36lb 9oz, 34lb, 32lb 7oz, 30lb x 2...- And - 29lb, 28lb 6oz, 27lb 8oz, 27lb 5oz, 24lb, 22lb 5oz.

6 anglers joined us this week from Cumbria, Hampshire and Staffordshire. Three newbies, and three who have been before. Rain, rain and more rain all week - cold and miserable most days and nights. Steady catches all week, but not as often as two previous weeks - although amazing sized lumps coming out, with brilliant weight gains noted. The guys stayed happy and focused. The carp really switched off for the last couple of days. Spawning is apparently occurring on some lakes in the Limousin, but not noticed yet on ours, unless they are just getting ready. 32 Carp totalling 1,206 lb's and 11 lost, with an average weight again of 38lb....- 66lb 1oz - Rik Harris...- 55lb 7oz - Simon Flint... 53lb - Simon flint... 53lb - Steve Casey... 50lb 3oz - Steve Casey...- 46lb 2oz - Rik Harris, 44lb 2oz - Steve Casey, 43lb 13oz - Simon Flint, 43lb 2oz Common - Ian Burton, 43lb - Simon Flint, 43lb - Rik Harris, 42lb 10oz - Steve Casey, 42lb 3oz - Ian Burton, 42lb 1oz - Simon Flint, 40lb 4oz - Simon Flint...- Also - 38lb 11oz, 37lb 6oz, 36lb 11oz, 36lb, 35lb, 34lb 6oz, 32lb 4oz, 30lb 2oz...- And - 28lb, 27lb 2oz, 25lb 5oz, 25lb 1oz, 25lb, 22lb 6oz, 21lb 14oz, 21lb 13oz, 21lb.

We welcomed 5 anglers - one group but from various locations this week. It was another absolutely brilliant week for them with Matey putting in his first appearance of the Season at a cracking 72lb 10oz, coming off the fence in the Bay on bottom bait. Everyone did very well at the beginning of the week, but it slowed down on Thursday, but did not take long to pick up again with the record Common at 48lb, coming in off the Point in open water, and again on bottom bait. The guys are really impressed with the quality of the new stock fish, some with beautiful scale patterns, and in superb condition. A lot of the larger carp are still coming out during the middle of the day, and the wafter hook baits seem to be doing really well. A combination of weather this week, being very windy, some rain and also lovely sunshine. 41 Carp caught totaling 1,565 lb's with 4 lost, and an average weight of just over 38lb....- 72lb 10oz - Ian Robinson....- 53lb 10oz - Dean Beale...- 50lb 15oz - Dean Beale...- 49lb 14oz - Richard Cheatham, 49lb 12oz - Richard Cheatham, 48lb Common - Ian Robinson, 47lb 12oz - Dean Beale, 47lb 4oz - Ian Robinson, 46lb 14oz - Adriano Torlii, 44lb 8oz - Ian Robinson, 44lb 7oz - Dean Beale, 44lb 1oz - Ian Robinson, 43lb 5oz - Dean Beale, 41lb 9oz - Dean Beale, 41lb 1oz - Dean Beale....- Also - 39lb 10oz x 2, 39lb 7oz, 39lb, 36lb 14oz, 36lb 12oz, 36lb 5oz, 36lb, 35lb 10oz, 35lb 4oz, 34lb 12oz x 2, 34lb 10oz, 34lb 8oz, 33lb 5oz x 2, 32lb 12oz, 32lb 1oz, 31lb 6oz, 31lb, 30lb 12oz, 30lb 8oz....- And - 27lb 10oz, 26lb 2oz, 25lb 4oz, 24lb 15oz.

Our regular guy Phil from Milton Keynes, and 4 new anglers - 2 from London and 2 from Somerset, holidayed at the lake this week. What an amazing 2nd week of the Season for them with a great haul 49 carp and fishing well from all swims. Seeing a good few Commons coming out now with excellent growth rate - a beautiful one at 46lb 12oz (Lake Record Common up to now) for Dan Keen using Snowman, and he also caught the largest Mirror at 52lb 12oz using Wafters. As it was so hot during the day, we had thought this would switch the carp off, but as usual, you can never define what they will do on any day. Probably still being cold and frosty at night kept the water temperature at an idyllic level for the Carp to continue their feeding. 49 Carp totaling 1,843 lb's and 6 lost, with an average weight of 38lb.....- 52lb 12oz - Dan Keen.... 51lb 7oz - Rob Marshall.... 51lb - Jason Carey....- 48lb 4oz - Jason Carey, 47lb 1oz - Phil Jordan, 46lb 14oz - Phil Jordan, 46lb 12oz Common - Dan Keen, 46lb 10oz - Phil Jordan, 46lb 7oz - Phil Jordan, 46lb 4oz - Jason Carey, 46lb 2oz - Jason Carey, 45lb 12oz - Dan Keen, 44lb 4oz - Jason Carey, 44lb 4oz - Don Kelly, 43lb 10oz Common - Jason Carey, 42lb 11oz - Jason Carey, 42lb 5oz - Jason Carey, 42lb 4oz - Dan Keen, 42lb - Dan Keen, 41lb 14oz - Dan Keen, 41lb 11oz - Jason Carey, 40lb 11oz - Dan Keen, 40lb 3oz - Dan Keen...- Also - 39lb 4oz, 38lb, 37lb 10oz, 37lb 4oz, 37lb 3oz, 37lb Common, 36lb 8oz, 36lb 7oz, 36lb 4oz, 35lb 12oz, 35lb 4oz, 35lb x 2, 34lb 5oz, 34lb 1oz, 33lb 10oz, 33lb 9oz, 31lb....- And - 29lb, 26lb 11oz, 26lb 2oz, 24lb 12oz, 24lb 10oz, 24lb, 23lb 8oz Common....- plus 19lb 10oz.

4 Anglers from Surrey started the Season with a great catch of 31 Carp. They had already caught 5 and lost 1 before Dinner on the first day - the largest being a new 50 at 50lb 15oz. Then overnight, another 3 caught. The new Carp introduced into the main lake in early March have been settling in and feeding well. Most netted this week have been the new ones, which have never before been caught, so seem to be grabbing the bait first - they will soon settle down. Some stunning 30's, especially the beautifully scaled mirror at 33lb 1oz - this is going to be one to watch - an amazing fish. Weather started off lovely and bright and sunny, clouding over on Sunday, then back to really warm on Monday. Steady intermittent catching until Thursday, when they turned off as the temperature hit 80 odd degrees. Then Saturday morning just as the guys were packing up, another 40 and 30 appeared. 31 carp caught totaling 1082 lb's, and 5 lost, with a good average weight of 35lb....- 55lb 14oz by Alistair Small....- 50lb 15oz by Alistair Small....- 44lb by Kevin Marden, 43lb 2oz by Owen Small, 42lb 5oz by Owen small, 42lb 5oz by Alistair Small.....- Also - 38lb 12oz, 38lb 5oz, 36lb 2oz, 35lb 10oz, 35lb 8oz, 35lb 3oz x 2, 35lb, 34lb 10oz, 34lb 8oz, 34lb 6oz, 34lb, 33lb 1oz, 32lb 9oz Common, 31lb 10oz, 30lb 6oz, 30lb 4oz....- And - 29lb 10oz, 29lb 5oz, 29lb 2oz, 28lb 10oz, 27lb 10oz, 26lb 14oz, 24lb 3oz, 22lb 12oz Common.

END OF SEASON REPORT 2013. - Another great year, although a little down on total catches, remembering that we are now closing during July to rest the carp. The Season started quite warm, but still freezing at night and good weights being caught. The weather kept changing dramatically over the next couple of months going from 40 - 30 degrees, then back to 14 in 2 days, and made the carp start to go into spawn mode, so minimal feeding going on and more on the naturals. This up and down weather continued well into May with catches also going up and down. It was not until well into June that the blisteringly hot heat started, and the carp then went into cooler water and managed to go into their spawn after lots of stops and starts. The weather did take its toll on the carp's spawning, feeding and weight loss, and they did not start to feed well and gain the weight again for some time...... The best weeks for amount caught were 14th - 11th May - 38 carp caught, 11th - 18th May - 34 carp caught, 14th - 21st September - 40 carp caught, and 28th September - 5th October - 32 carp caught...... Top Fishermen were Peter Higman and Phil Spendelow....- Best weight was Phil Booth - 68lb 3oz.....- Best Common was Martin Smith - 46lb 6oz.....- Plenty of work has been going on since the end of the Season, with 2 more new double cabins being erected on the Bay swims, and new steps and paths outside. Also lots of cutting back and chain sawing of trees - opening it up and giving a new dimension to the view of the lake from the Lodge. The Winter has been so mild up to yet, with the sun bringing the carp to the surface and really enjoying the temperature of the water. This has meant that Baz has been able to start feeding them early, and thus with any luck you will see a marked rise in their weights in 2014. Plenty of rain though put paid to working outside (which Baz loves), so I managed to get a bit of work out of him at our house . At the end of Aprilm we are taking delivery of two new aerators for the main lake. Although we do not appear to have a problem with oxygenation, there are a few lakes that have lost a large number of their fish due to the very hot weather last year. We have decided to introduce these in the event of any extreme weather in the future. Good luck to all our Anglers for the New Season 2014.

The 30 degree temperature was back with a vengeance this week, even warm at night, so it was another hard week for our regular guys from Surrey. But they stuck at it, and kept putting in their Carp Company bait - it paid off big time by producing some cracking lumps. Well done guys. Tony Smith and wife Shirley arrived from Norfolk, plus 3 new guys from Stoke-on-Trent and our regular twice a year Pete “Superman” Higman from Cornwall stayed yet another week, and is he glad he did because he stole the show both weeks - he certainly had plenty of action. A fantastically brilliant week for all the guys though, with the weather conditions staying absolutely perfect. A lot of late 30's which would have added to the great list of 40's prior to the spawn, so an incredible week for large fish caught by everyone on all swims, and one of our best. 40 Carp totaling 1,405 lb's, with a little lower average weight of 35lb, because of new stock introduction from the pond into the main lake - still amazing....- 52lb 12oz by Pete Higman....- 49lb 12oz by Pete Higman, 48lb 8oz by John Walley, 48lb 4oz by Pete Higman, 47lb 14oz by Pete Higman, 45lb 5oz by Dave Goodwin, 44lb 4oz by Ian Goodwin, 43lb 11oz by Pete higman, 42lb 13oz by Pete Higman, 42lb 7oz by Ian Goodwin, 42lb 4oz by Tony Smith, 41lb 15oz by Pete Higman, 41lb 6oz by Pete Higman, 40lb 10oz by Ian Goodwin, 40lb 7oz by Tony smith....- Also - 39lb 14oz, 39lb 11oz, 39lb x 2, 38lb 6oz, 37lb 10oz, 36lb 10oz, 36lb 7oz, 35lb 13oz, 35lb 5oz, 34lb 14oz, 32lb 8oz, 31lb 8oz, 30lb....- And - 29lb 8oz, 29lb 7oz, 26lb 14oz, 26lb 12oz, 26lb 6oz, 26lb 2oz, 23lb 5oz, 22lb 4oz, 22lb 3oz, 21lb 6oz, 20lb.

Our very regular guys this week were Ron Chillery, Barry Henson, Dave Tizzard and Trev Lovell from Nottinghamshire, and Pete Higman from Cornwall staying two weeks. He had a cracking week, and hopes it continues into next week. Fishing picked up a bit from the previous few weeks due to the absolutely perfect conditions of being overcast with rain, and the odd bit of sunshine, with temperatures going down from being weeks and weeks of 30 degrees to much more agreeable 19/20. So a generally good week for our guys overall, although still somewhat hard for some. 19 carp caught totalling 704 lb's, with an average weight of 37lb. Still not gained all the weight lost during spawning.......- 47lb 10oz by Ron Chillery, 45lb 3oz by Pete Higman, 44lb 10oz by Barry Henson, 42lb 6oz by Ron Chillery, 42lb 4oz by Pete Higman, 41lb 13oz by Pete Higman, 41lb 10oz by Pete Higman....- Also - 39lb 6oz, 39lb 5oz, 39lb, 38lb 4oz, 33lb 14oz, 33lb 10oz, 33lb 4oz, 32lb 10oz, 31lb 6oz...- And - 28lb 11oz, 26lb 10oz, 22lb 5oz.

Two sets of twins on the lake this week. Colin's twin Tony with his mate from Norfolk, and Peter and Paul Skipworth from Peterborough, also Phil Booth from Wiltshire. Hard yet again with blazing sunshine most of the week until Friday when rain cooled it down slightly - typical just in time for the barbecue. Fishing has been so strange of late, and we are not the only lake to find this is happening. Constant heat is maybe turning the carp onto more of the abundant naturals in the lake - no-one knows exactly, but predicted cooler weather will hopefully get them going big time again. Matey graced the bank again after a few weeks absence at 68lb, and a fair few lost again. 3 takes at once seemed good, but so much going on at once saw a big one around 50lb, can not believe it was lost as it was being taken out of the net, and another around 40lb lost at the net. Paul played another one for around 50 minutes which he said felt huge - kept pulling away then coming in again, but after all that time, hook pulled and lost again. Overall, not a bad week, even though a few more 20's out than usual as Colin has been introducing some into the main lake from the stock pond of late, so we expect a lower average because these guys will be going on the munch for the boilies, as they have only fed on pellet and natural food so far. 23 Carp caught totaling 788 lb's, still with a good average weight of 35lb...- 68lb 3oz by Phil Booth...- 43lb 12oz by Pete Skipworth, 44lb 2oz by Phil Booth, 43lb by Phil Booth, 41lb 2oz by Paul Skipworth...- Also - 39lb 12oz, 39lb 9oz, 39lb, 35lb 15oz, 35lb, 34lb, 31lb 12oz, 31lb...- And - 29lb 12oz, 27lb 12oz, 27lb, 26lb 7oz, 26lb x 3, 25lb 8oz, 25lb, 22lb.

A smudge cooler this week, and quite a bit colder overnight, but our guys from Essex and Surrey again started the week very slowly, the carp just were not having any of it. Loads showing though which is a good sign. Denis lost 4 over on the Med and decided to move into the Bay on Tuesday where he struck gold with the first 40 of the week. Wednesday saw him lose what he said was a massive one right at the net, larger than the 50 he caught last year and then another one lost on Thursday. He then bagged another 40, whilst Brian netted the 50 overnight, but again lost 3. Although struggling, the carp look like they are now on the munch again, but temperature is set to go right up again by this weekend. Could have been a great week for 3 anglers if so many had not been lost. 11 Carp totaling 427 lb's, with an average weight of 39lb. 9 Carp lost. 51lb 5oz by Brian Francis...- 49lb by Denis Friend, 43lb 12oz by Denis Friend, 42lb 13oz by Brian Francis...- Also - 38lb 8oz, 38lb, 36lb 12oz, 36lb, 32lb 4oz, 32lb...- And - 26lb 4oz.

What an absolutely dire week's fishing for our 3 guys from Essex. After cooling down slightly towards the end of last week, continued hot weather did not do it any favours at all, reaching yet again 39 degrees, although the temperature did go down overnight when most were caught, but not enough to cool the water down. 5 Carp caught totaling 179 lb's with an average weight of 36lb...- 43lb 7oz by Paul Page, 40lb by Clive Cook....- Also - 34lb 3oz, 33lb 4oz...- And - 27lb 15oz.

The second half of our Season started really slowly for our boys from Manchester. Blisteringly hot weather for a month now has left the already weak spawned out carp very lethargic, with oxygen levels much lower because of the heat, they seemed more intent on sunbathing than eating, other than a few takes during the night when slightly cooler. Some good large lumps came out very intermittently up until Wednesday, but fishing picked up big time for Dan Scanlon, as on Wednesday night after thunderstorms and going down around 10 degrees, he netted 3 consecutive carp, beating his PB all 3 times. So glad that his first trip to France produced these for him - he is over the moon. The week ended on a high note with Will Macdonald netting Matey at 47lb 14oz, after saying that was the one he wanted to catch - strange coincidence - well done. Hoping it keeps cool now for the carp to really get on the much again and regain their weights. Thursday was the first time in ages we have seen them crashing about, so hopefully a good week for our next guys. Since spawning, weights have gone down about 3-4lb, so the late 40's would have been 50's, and will be in the next few weeks . 19 Carp caught totaling 760lb's, with an average weight of 40lb. 59lb by Dan Scanlon .- 49lb 1oz by Darren Constable, 48lb 5oz by Dan Scanlon, 47lb 14oz by Will MacDonald, 47lb 10oz by Darren Constable, 47lb 8oz by Alan Smith, 42lb 10oz by Darren Constable, 42lb 2oz by Simon Wells, 41lb 8oz by Alan Smith, 40lb 7oz by Simon Wells, 40lb by Simon Wells - Also - 38lb 12oz, 38lb 5oz, 37lb 10oz, 35lb 3oz - And - 28lb, 27lb 13oz, 25lb 9oz Common, 22lb 10oz.

The long awaited Summer and such varied temperatures have taken their toll on the Carp wanting to spawn. Last week, they were actually spawning, but even though two guys blanked, there were still some good lumps coming out. This week, for our guys from Derbyshire and London, it was horribly evident that the fish were recovering from their overdue spawn, and hardly fed at all. Action on the Dam happened late in the week with the 50lber, so James was finally happy hammering his PB by around 25lb. Unfortunately, 3 of our anglers blanked, but they so loved the place and know that catching is not always guaranteed, especially at spawning time. They know the fish that are in here, and will be back to fight another day. Only 4 Carp caught totaling 144.8 lb's, with an average weight of 36.2 lb. Could have been a bit better as 5 were lost.....- 51lb 8oz by James Brownbill...- 41lb by Andre Shah...- Also - 27lb, 25lb.....- This has happened at the right time, because we are closing during July to have a few week's off. There will be some more work being done, friends and family over with a bit of a holiday, and it will definitely do the carp good to have a rest until we start again on August 3rd. It is going to be blazing hot here over the next few weeks and not before time, so the carp will go into deeper water to keep cool. They should be well and truly refreshed, and on the munch again, to give the next guys some great catches. Reports will continue then. Happy Holidays everyone.

More of our regular anglers joined us this week from Essex. Another grotty week weatherwise, with fishing much slower than last week. Spawning has finally commenced, with plenty of thrashing about well into the night. The poor Carp are very late this year, and we have had a few weeks of will they, won't they, with the weather so changeable. Consequently this week, only 18 carp totalling 710 lb's, but again another great average of 40lb, along with a new 60 coming out, which is a real bonus. Over the two weeks, they caught 14 carp, and Phil had an an amazing personal average of 48lb, including 3 - 50's, and Pops also with a fantastic average of 45lb, including a 60. They were joined on the lake by another one of our regulars from Lincoln, and 3 new anglers from Cheshire. Nothing was caught under 32lb. Rotten weather, mostly rain with odd thunderstorms, and a lot of the carp being caught during the day for a change - giving Colin a few good night's sleep. Bit of a bonding session going on this week with 3 fathers and their sons from Essex making one of their regular visits to the lake. Fishing still a little difficult, but again good lumps coming out from all swims and producing some of the best carp in the lake, notably Battler now over 50 - (sorry Martin), Bracer and Cracker now over 40. Can not believe the weather has still not been fit for a barbecue, with it continuing to be cold and wet. These guys needed plenty of warm nourishment to keep them going. A slower week than last, but catches regularly intermittent, with some good lumps again. Baz doing his usual stuff, having a laugh and promoting his slogan “no matter what, never give up”, which definitely worked for Dennis Friend who struggled all week, then on the Friday, he scooped Mackem at 52lb 10oz and topped it off with a 47lb 3oz, so he went home very happy and is back again in August for another shot. Baz did a couple of nights in the Med Swim after Pete moved into the Bay, and is he glad he did - fantastic Pete, but I think Martin just pipped him with 15 to 13 - amazing performance Martin - they are over the moon. Eric Chan-Pensley and Stuart Hobkirk had a much harder week, but Eric still produced three 40's, and Stuart a stunning Common. Michael O'Connor who travelled all the way from Ireland also found it hard, but again three 40's is still a great catch on our sized lake. It's been an absolutely brilliant and extremely successful week for our mixed bunch of regular guys this week from Liverpool, Oxon and Essex. Even with the fluctuation between sun, rain and a little cooler weather this week, the carp were munching well. A fantastic amount of large Commons coming out now in superb condition. The Bay and Quarry swims did their duty and produced the most, with the med coming close. The Dam could not supply this time, but hey, this is usually one of our most productive swims and Colin loves to fish here when he can. Guys visiting us this week were from Surrey and Lancashire. What a switch off. Can't remember such a hard week as this. They say it all depends on water temperature, but now I am not so sure. We expected a late spawning due to the awful Spring weather, but from 14 degrees to 30 degrees and then back to 14 degrees in 2 days, has not allowed the water temperature in a lake our size to warm up that much, but it looks like the carp went into spawn mode, as there has been some crashing about. Even a week ago when the two brothers were catching the most carp, one of the males was “milking”, and that was really cold. Having said that, it could have been a reasonable week if all the carp lost had been netted. Our own Baz did a couple of nights towards the end of the week, and had no sleep - not from catches, but from buzzers going off all night. Looks like they were just taking a little nibble, then they were off. On Thursday night, he and all the other anglers had 8 runs between them, so in all, around 12 carp lost this week. 11 carp caught totalling 417lb, with an average weight of 38 lb.....- 49lb 4oz caught by Russel Musgrove, 42lb caught by Pete Southworth, 41lb 7oz caught by Terry Walmsley, 41lb 6oz again by Pete Southworth, 40lb 6oz again by Terry Walmsley.....- Also - 39lb 5oz, 36lb 8oz, 35lb 6oz, 33lb 12oz, 33lb 10oz...- And - 23lb 7oz.

A Really slow week with horrendous weather, even though temperatures a little warmer. Thank goodness for the new cabins and the guys in those were really happy to escape the rain and be snug and dry. Two brothers from Surrey had a superb week with most of the catches, but our 2 anglers from Liverpool and 2 from Lancashire struggled until later in the week. Most lakes have struggled this week, some even becoming waterlogged, so 21 carp on the bank is a good week in these conditions. Well done guys. We welcomed guys from Oxon, Manchester and Liverpool this week. Great start with some good ones being caught the first night, then it slowed right down again due to the weather changing again. Carp were moving around, then went into deep water as the temperature dropped. Will MacDonald caught an amazing 5 over 40lb, and stole the show. We thought that was the end of the cold spell, but some really frosty nights. There is continued coldish weather until the middle of next week, then warming up thank goodness, and we hope to start seeing plenty of action everywhere. 14 Carp caught totalling 591lb, with a brilliant average weight again of 42lb. 2 Lost by a damaged hook and cut line, and a few more. Could have been a blinder of a week, but well done guys for some absolutely brilliant weights yet again....- 63lb 5oz caught by William Macdonald....- 59lb 13oz again by William Macdonald....- 48lb 6oz caught by Chris Fellows, 46lb 11oz yet again by William Macdonald, 45lb 7oz and yet again by William Macdonald, 40lb 4oz again caught by William Macdonald, 40lb 2oz Common again by Chris Fellows, 40lb Common caught by Terry Lines....- Also - 39lb 14oz, 38lb 12oz, 36lb 5oz, 34lb 1oz, 30lb 8oz...- And - 27lb 4oz. Welcome to the start of our Season 2013. We opened a little early this year due to demand with 4 lads from Surrey. Cold when they arrived but temperatures soaring to a very warm sunbathing level of 22 degrees, which was very welcome considering they had come from the freezing snows of England. Even though warm, this was not enough to get the water temperature up because it was still freezing cold at night, although most carp caught night time or early hours. Still some cracking weights for so early. 10 Carp caught with some lost - a massive one apparently according to Gary Mac. Total weight of 403.5 lbs with a great average weight of 41lb.....- 52lb caught by Ian Richardson....- 49lb 10oz again caught by Ian Richardson, 48lb 19oz caught yet again by Ian Richardson, 41lb caught by Rob Turner.....- Also - 39lb 4oz, 38lb 4oz, 37lb, 34lb, 33lb 9oz, 31lb.

END OF SEASON 2012 REPORT- -... Another fabulous year at Lac Les Pins with superb weights being caught and the averages continuing to rise. For a lake of 12 acres, these are brilliant.... It was fantastic to see Matey come out at 74lb, caught by one of our youngest anglers, Liam Davis. Although all carp lost a lot of weight over the very long hot Summer, it was good to see Colin catch Matey again in November, weighing 68lb, proving that they were beginning to put it all back on.... The amount of 50's and 60's caught have doubled since 2011, and the reason for more 20's is the fact that we have now reintroduced some 20's from the stock pond into the main lake for further growth. There were 50 less 30's caught and 50 more 40's, so if it goes on at this rate, our anglers could be catching more 50's than 40's.... The last 3 years results show how far the carp have come on.... 2010 93 - 20's, 409 - 30's, 126 - 40's, 16 - 50's, 6 - 60's. Average 36lb.... 2011 .88 - 20's, 319 - 30's, 155 - 40's, 15 - 50's, 6 - 60's. Average 38lb.... 2012 .112 - 20's, 237 - 30's, 208 - 40's, 30 - 50's, 11 - 60's, 1 - 70. Average 39lb. Average still up even with all the extra 20's.... It seems that our lads from Nottingham have it sussed. Two different groups, one who came from 7th - 14th April produced the best weights. 45 Carp with an average of 41lb. 4 - 60's, 1 - 50, 23 - 40's, 12 - 30's and 5 - 20's.... Another group from Nottingham who visited on 25th August - 1st September, produced the most Carp. 56 Carp with an average of 34lb 1 - 60, 1 - 50, 12 - 40's, 29 - 30's and 13 - 20's.... 5 anglers from the Isle of Wight from 8th - 15th September also had a great haul of 50 Carp .... Well done to all these guys..... We have had various ages and dialects over the past year, and what a great bunch they have all been. Mostly, we have a great laugh and understanding with them, so things run very smoothly. We do have the odd little outbursts of frustration sometimes, but this usually corrects itself with the first big catch. As we have always said, this is NOT a runs water, sometimes it can be extremely difficult, and you can wait 2 or 3 days, but when you do catch, it is well worth the wait, and at least you are not being kept up all night with the “ babies”.... ONGOING - - - ... It is very mild at the moment, and the carp have been feeding extremely well on our protein pellet. They have been enjoying the weather, and jumping around a lot, so hopefully there will be another significant weight gain for the coming Season.... Barry continues to progress with his goal of achieving “Shangri La” - a paradise where every carp angler can come and enjoy the excellence of the services here, and the pleasure of netting a monster. We spend the Winter months maintaining the grounds, and reinvesting in further luxuries rather than necessities to make you the experience to remember, and that is why the majority of our anglers return again year after year, and have become firm friends.... Barry has already erected 2 double cabins on the Riviera and Med swims, and these will make it all the more comfortable and cosy for whoever has the fortune to be allocated one of these. This part of the lake has always received the worst of the weather as it is so open, so wind and rain can come at its worst, and if Barry has done his job properly, they will still be standing afterwards.... He is also now continuing to get on with the new Lodge. Electricity and plumbing is installed, and internal walls and ceilings have been plastered. Floor tiling is almost completed.... He will have to stop there for a little while as he has a knee operation at the end of January, but most of you know what a workaholic Baz is, so that will not stop him for long. He will then continue his project, as well as cutting down nuisance saplings, and then on to his never ending grass cutting stint over the Summer.... We will be off to England in February for your beloved English Sausages, Bacon and Baked Beans, and other supplies, whilst Colin is back to lake sit. Then it will be all hands to the deck once again to prepare for reopening. Not much time off for us I am afraid - not quite the idyllic existence that everyone thinks, but still a million miles away from the rat race of the UK.... We would urge everyone wanting particular dates, to please book as early in advance as possible, so as not to be disappointed. We do hate turning anyone away. A few spaces left for 2013, but now taking bookings for 2014.... We wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2013, and look forward to welcoming our returning and new anglers this year.... Bonne Peche

The last week of the Season continued to be an extremely hard week for our 2 regular guys -1 from Cornwall and 1 from Norfolk. Our own Bazza did a few nights to help out also, and caught a lovely 50. Rain to start the week, with some nice days and then the temperature dropped leading to an extremely cold Northerly wind and sharp frost. 10 carp caught totalling 410lb's, with an average of 41lb. Pete Higman from Cornwall stole the show with the majority of the catch - absolute stonkers....- 50lb 11oz caught by Bazza Reah.... 49lb 2oz caught by Pete Higman, 48lb 5oz again by Pete Higman, 44lb 12oz yet again by Pete Higman....- Also - 39lb 14oz, 39lb 5oz, 39lb Common, 38lb 5oz, 35lb....- And - 26lb. We welcomed 4 new anglers from Surrey this week, and poor guys, the carp just totally switched off, and they had the worst week ever at Lac Les Pins. It was a really miserable week with mostly rain, although not that cold during the day. We thought it would be good fishing weather, but who really knows the workings of a Carp's natural instincts. Just a few very intermittent catches during the week, and then they turned on the last night and morning, with fish fizzing in the margins, and the 2nd 40 of the week came out, this was after the rain stopped and there was a sharp frost overnight. Sorry guys - better luck next time, and thanks for all your fantastic comments overall. Also 1 new angler from Greater Manchester - Pete Smith - had a cracking week for his first visit and enjoyed being part of this gang. Finally, with the temperature dropping considerably especially overnight, the carp have started on the munch with gusto. They need to be putting back all that weight they have lost now ready for Winter, and it shouldn't take too long with the way they are gulping it down. A fantastic week for our guys - a lovely bunch and a great laugh was had all week. Their pics will be going in the Nottingham Post, as did the last Nottingham lads, who earlier in the year also had a blinding week. Hopefully, the catches will now continue, though getting a bit warmer again next week. 56 fish totalling 1,922 lb's, with an average weight of 34lb. 11 were lost. We welcomed back four of our very regular anglers from Liverpool, Birmingham and Nottinghamshire. With the temperature reaching 43 degrees, this was never going to be a great week fishwise as the lake was like a warm bath - unbearable heat at times - cooling down quite a few degrees towards the end of the week, but not enough to cool the lake substantially. The guys managed 22 carp and everyone lost fish - 11 in total, so it could have made a big difference. Catch totalling 900 lb's with an average weight of 43 lb (great average again). The guys did well though with still some really decent sized lumps considering - hopefully we have seen the end of the sizzling weather..... 44lb 2oz caught by Ron Chillery, 43lb 7oz caught by Martin Smith, 40lb 4oz again by Martin Smith, 40lb caught by Steve McCarthy, 40lb caught by Tony McCarthy....- Also - 38lb 8oz, 38lb 7oz, 37lb, 35lb, 34lb, 33lb Common, 33lb, 32lb, 31lb 9oz, 30lb 10oz...... Slow to begin the week with temperatures getting hotter every day reaching 38 degrees, so fantastic catches in this weather. The carp have all lost quite a bit of weight since their last spawn at the end of June, and the fact that there has been no-one fishing the lake for all of July, although we have still been subsidising them with regular high protein pellet. Consequently all the high 20's 30's and 40's would normally have been 30's, 40's and 50's, and Matey's drop in weight was particularly noticeable. Now that they are on the munch again, they will soon gain their rightful weights and more as they did last year. 31 carp caught totalling 1,095 lbs, with an average weight of 35.32 lb. 10/12 fish were lost, so it could have been even better. 62lb 8oz caught by Steve Furness..... - 47lb 11oz caught by Terry Tsoulouhopoulos, 43lb 10oz again by Steve Furness, 43lb caught by Ryan Furness, 42lb 11oz again caught by Ryan Furness, 41lb 8oz caught yet again by Steve Furness, 40lb 11oz and yet again caught by Steve Furness...- Also - 39lb 11oz, 38lb, 37lb, 36lb 8oz, 36lb 4oz Common, 35lb 10oz, 34lb 6oz, 34lb 5oz x 2, 34lb 3oz, 33lb 6oz, 32lb 10oz, 32lb 8oz, 31lb Common, 30lb 1oz, 30lb.... The carp and ourselves are taking a well earned mid Season rest during July, so no catch reports will be posted. We will be entertaining some of our friends and relatives during this time, with perhaps a small spot of fishing to keep them active. Reports will resume for the second part of the season, starting after our first lot of anglers leave on the 11th August. Then it is full steam ahead with postings every week until the end of October. Enjoy your fishing wherever you may be.

We welcomed anglers from Norfolk, Stoke on Trent and Cornwall this week. Phil from Stoke was supposed to come with his son and they come every year, but right at the last minute, his son was taken ill and could not make it, which was a real shame. Our own Baz shared a couple of nights with him to keep him company. The guys really had a struggle, as unfortunately the carp started the beginning of their spawn again, and it looks like it is going to be a harder one than the last, with carp crashing around towards the end of the week. Some really hot days, but cold at night. Still a few good lumps came out though....- 50lb 14oz caught by Ryan Young...- 44lb again caught by Ryan Young, 42lb 8oz caught by Phil Spendelow, 42lb yet again by Ryan Young, 40lb 4oz caught by Tony Smith, 40lb 2oz again by Phil Spendelow...- Also - 37lb, 35lb 14oz, 35lb Common And 28lb 4oz Common, 28lb, 26lb, 21lb

Paul Bailey from Kidlington stayed another week, and was joined by three other guys from East Sussex and Tunbridge Wells. It just goes to show how dramatically things can change on a fishing lake from one week to the next, so different to last week when the carp went on the munch big time after their spawn. An incredibly hard week was had by the boys, with again changeable weather getting very hot with a couple of rainy days. 14 carp caught weighing 503 lb's, with an average weight of 36lb.....- 48lb 10oz caught by Paul Bailey, 44lb 6oz caught again by Paul Bailey, 44lb 1oz yet again by Paul Bailey, 44lb and again by Paul Bailey - now you are getting greedy Paul, 43lb 11oz caught by Mark Rose....- Also - 38lb 8oz, 38lb, 37lb 2oz, 36lb 12oz, 35lb 14oz, 33lb 13oz, 32lb 13oz, 30lb 4oz....- And - 26lb 12oz.
